Good news for actor and comedian George Lopez and his newest TV family. NBC has ordered an additional nine episodes of his sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez. That will bring the total number of episodes to 22 for the first season.

According to Deadline, the series ranks as NBC’s No. 1 comedy streaming on Peacock.

Lopez vs. Lopez teams George up with his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. NBC describes it as “a working-class family comedy about dysfunction, reconnection, and all the pain and joy in between.” In the series, George reconnects with his daughter by moving in with her and her family. The show is loosely autobiographical. George being estranged from Mayan is much like the real George and Mayan were until only a couple of years ago.

During an interview with Remezcla last month, George said he knew right away that Mayan would have what it takes to co-star in a major sitcom with him.

“She always had this comic instinct since she was 11,” he said. “I remember once as a kid, she played the chef in The Little Mermaid. I was like, ‘Wow, man, this kid’s got that thing.’ So, to be able to see Mayan be so good so fast was amazing.”

This week, Lopez vs. Lopez will air its fifth episode of the season. The following week, on December 16, George will reunite with some of the cast members from his first namesake sitcom, George Lopez, for a Christmas special. Joining George and Mayan on the episode will be Constance Marie, Valente Rodriguez, Luis Armand Garcia, and Belita Moreno.
