Grammy Award-nominated artist Luis Fonsi is adding to his filmography. The “Despacito” singer will make his feature film debut in the romantic comedy The Answer to My Prayer.

Directed by Patrick Perez Vidauri (In Other Words), the film tells the story of three friends in San Antonio, Texas, who are guided to their true love by the power of an ancient prayer. Academy Award-nominated actor Edward James Olmos (Stand and Deliver) will serve as an executive producer on the project.

Although Fonsi’s acting experience is limited, he has been featured in several music videos during his career, giving him plenty of familiarity with being in front of a camera. In 2000, Fonsi starred in two episodes of the Venezuelan telenovela Amantes de Luna Llena. He was also seen in a handful of other TV series like Taina, starring Christina Vidal in 2002, and Corazones al límite starring Erika Buenfil, in 2004. He has made notable appearances on shows like Songland and performed Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” in an ensemble earlier this year at the Oscars.

“I like acting,” Fonsi said during a 2011 interview with Acceso Total. “I think acting is fun. I think it goes hand in hand with what I do. However, I’m not into the very dramatic, serious acting. I’m more into the musical acting.”

He added: “Don’t get me wrong. If tomorrow, I’m asked to do a role in an interesting TV show or a movie, of course, I’m not going to turn it down if I feel I can do it. [But] when there’s music, I’m sort of at a safe place. When you take music out of the equation, I don’t feel like I’m on solid ground.”

Details about The Answer to My Prayer are limited, but something tells us Fonsi might show off his vocals in his new role.
