Is there anything Lynda Carter can’t do? The half-Mexican former superheroine does everything, from 1970s stuntwork to being a fierce advocate for the #MeToo movement. And audiences could see her standing tall opposite her protegee, new Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.
Ever since Patty Jenkins directed the first big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman last year, fans questioned whether the original wielder of the Lasso of Truth, Lynda Carter, would factor into any sequel plans. Carter has been vocal about her admiration for both Gadot and director Jenkins, and the good will might have paid off. In an interview with the Today Show, Carter confirmed “I’ve been talking to [Patty Jenkins] about it” and that it’s up to the director to come up with something for her. All that’s currently known about Wonder Woman 2 is we’ll see Gadot’s Diana Prince deal with the Soviet Union in the 1980s and that both Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal will be meeting her as the villain and an unspecified character, respectively.
Though many news pundits are acting like this means Carter has already signed on the dotted line that’s far from the case. Based on her comments, and the few reports elaborating on it, her and Jenkins are still trying to find a way for her character to appear and if it does happen it would be little more than a cameo. Considering her prominent placement as the President of the United States on the CW’s Supergirl, is a cameo really enough? It’d certainly be wonderful for the Wonder Woman of the ’70s to meet her new incarnation, especially factoring in the long road it’s taken from the 1970s series to finally see a film adaptation. Either way the world needs more Lynda Carter!
