Emmy-nominated actor Richard Cabral (American Crime) has joined the cast of Peacock’s upcoming live-action series Twisted Metal, which is based on a PlayStation video game that debuted in 1995.
“My journey of a storyteller, I’m forever grateful,” Cabral wrote on social media. “Honored to bring all these stories to life.”
According to Deadline, the Mayans M.C. will play the character Loud, the overprotective brother of Stephanie Beatriz’s car thief character, Quiet. The series follows a driver named John Doe (Anthony Mackie) who must deliver a mysterious package to someone before a group of blood-thirsty marauders and motorists kill him.
Along for the ride in the post-apocalyptic world of Twisted Metal will be actors Neve Campbell (Scream), Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways) and Will Arnett (The Lego Batman Movie).
This will be Cabral’s first major TV project since Mayans M.C. Spoiler Alert: After playing Johnny “Coco” Cruz on the FX motorcycle gang series since 2018, Cabral’s character [spoiler] was killed off in the fifth episode of the current fourth season. For episode seven, Cabral was credited as a writer for the first time on the series.
During an interview with Remezcla last year for the third season of Mayans M.C., Richard Cabral, who is a former gang member, drug addict and ex-convict, talked about his unique journey in Hollywood and how he confronts playing characters that some critics consider stereotypical gangster roles.
“I grew up in the barrio,” he said. “I know this world. I know the beauty and the pain of it. People who say that wanna talk about a lifestyle they’ve never experienced. If I’m giving critically-acclaimed performances telling gangster stories, then what’s the problem?”
