Humberly González has done a lot to get to where she is. The actress, who stars in Friends & Family Christmas, Hallmark Channel’s first lesbian holiday romance, is anything but a newcomer. In fact, Friends & Family Christmas isn’t even her first time playing a queer character. But it’s still an important landmark for González, who is queer herself, and for Hallmark.

The movie, which follows Daniela (González) and Amelia (Ali Liebert), two women who are set up by their parents as they decide to fake date for the holidays to appease their parents and find that they actually get along better than expected, premiered Sunday, December 17th on Hallmark.

Born in Venezuela, González and her family moved to Canada when she was 15. She started studying acting from a young age and enrolled in the National Theatre School of Canada. Her first big role was in the TV series In the Dark, where she played Vanessa. She later appeared in Utopia Falls and Nurses.

González went on to higher profile shows after that, like her 2021 roles in Ginny & Georgia, where she played Sophie Sanchez for 14 episodes, and Slumberland, where she played Graciela in the Jason Momoa-led movie. She has also done voiceover work and full-body motion capture for video games such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, and Far Cry 6.

Her characters in Utopia Falls, Ginny & Georgia, and Jupiter’s Legacy were all queer. And she is set to be the voice of Kay Vess in the video game Star Wars Outlaws, which will be released in 2024.

Humberly González is also a dancer and singer, in both Spanish and English.

Friends & Family Christmas is available to stream on Peacock TV.
