The first trailer for the Spanish-language Apple TV+ series Familia de medianoche (Midnight Family) made its online debut Tuesday (August 20) morning, and viewers are likely to feel an adrenaline rush from many of the scenes.

It’s inspired by the 2019 award-winning documentary of the same name where the Ochoa family runs a private ambulance, competing with other for-profit EMTs for patients in need of urgent help. It was directed by Luke Lorentzen and focused on three family members; Juan, Fer, and Josue. As the trailer informs viewers, there are only about 100 government owned ambulances to take care of a population of 10 million.

Midnight Family stars Renata Vaca (Saw X) as Marigaby Tamayo, a medical student who spends her nights saving lives across the city with her father Ramón (Joaquín Cosio) and siblings Marcus (Diego Calva) and Julito (Sergio Bautista). It has a 10-episode run and the names have been changed.

In the trailer, the family is seen handling all types of physical injuries stemming from a lucha libre match that gets out of hand, car accidents, and even an earthquake. The family must also face their own challenges. Ramón is having his own health problems and Marigaby has been told by her medical school that she can’t practice medicine as an undergraduate. Will she quit the family business or risk her education?

Other actors who make appearances on the series include Óscar Jaenada (Cantinflas), José María de Tavira (The Candidate), Itzan Escamilla (Élite), Mariana Gómez (The Queen of Flow), Dolores Heredia (Capadocia) and Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), who shows up in the trailer as a hospital patient.

The first two episodes of Midnight Family air on September 25, 2024. New episodes follow every Wednesday through November 20, 2024.
