First-look photos were just released for the new coming-of-age Hulu movie Miguel Wants to Fight, and it’s great to see that the platform has invested in another Latine-led project.

The film stars Tyler Dean Flores (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as the title character, a high school junior who has never experienced getting into a fight before. With the help of his friends David (Christian Vunipola), Cass (Imani Lewis), and Srini (Suraj Partha), Miguel will do what it takes to get into his first fight with someone from his neighborhood.

In a couple of the photos released by Hulu, Miguel is seen dressed in Bruce Lee’s iconic yellow jumpsuit from the 1978 classic kung fu movie Game of Death. It looks like he’s squaring off against an opponent in some kind of training exercise in one photo and attacking him on the ground in another.

In a third image, Miguel, David, Cass, and Srini are standing together and looking at someone like they’re ready to instigate a fight. In one of the photos, Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black) is also featured inside a classroom. We’re guessing she’s playing one of the teens’ teachers. There is also a photo of actress Andrea Navedo (Jane the Virgin) sitting at a table with a concerned look on her face. Could she be Miguel’s mom?

Miguel Wants to Fight is directed by Emmy winner Oz Rodriguez (Saturday Night Live) and written by Jason Concepcion (Primo) and Shea Serrano (Primo). The movie premieres on Hulu on August 16, 2023.
