  • Tessa Thompson’s new film Passing was acquired by Netflix for more than $15 million at the Sundance Film Festival. Thompson stars with Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga (Loving) as two Black women, who can pass as white, living in late 1920s New York. The film is adapted from the novel by Nella Larsen.   • Sonia Braga has been cast in the new Jennifer Lopez action-comedy Shotgun Wedding. Braga will play Lopez’s mother. The film is set to begin production in the Dominican Republic this month. [Variety]
  • On My Block has been renewed for a fourth and final season on Netflix. The coming-of-age comedy is set in inner-city L.A. and stars Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia and Julio Macias. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Anya Taylor-Joy is having a great week. After earning two Golden Globe nominations for The Queen’s Gambit and Emma, the Argentine-British-American actress earned more recognition, this time a Screen Actors Guild nom for The Queen’s Gambit. [IndieWire]
  • Mexican indigenous filmmaker Angeles Cruz will screen his new film Nudo Mixteco at the 38th annual Miami Film Festival next month. The film tells the story of three people whose lives intersect during their village’s patron saint festivities. [Variety]
