Reggaeton singer Nicky Jam is spreading his wings in the entertainment industry. Details are still unclear, but according to El Occidental, the artist is reportedly in talks with Netflix to make his directorial debut on La Perla, a film he wrote.
Without giving names, Jam said he shared the idea with a screenwriter of the Netflix series La Casa de Papel and that he “loved the story” and started talking to Netflix about it. Jam said the narrative revolves around two boys from the neighborhood of La Perla in Puerto Rico. La Perla is located inside the Old San Juan Historic District.
“That’s the way it is,” Jam said. “I had been working with this story for a long time … Regardless of whether it’s with [Netflix] or whoever, we’re going to get it out.”
Jam also said he is participating in another movie called American Sole, which is produced by comedian Kevin Hart. The film stars Pete Davidson, Bad Bunny, Camila Mendes, and Offset. The drama tells the story of two friends who try to make some fast cash by reselling sneakers. He’s also preparing for a second season of his reality show Nicky Jam: El Ganador.
The Íntimo singer also revealed that he is getting ready to make his debut as a leading man in an upcoming film but didn’t share many details. “We are filming it with a very big company, and I am going to be the main character,” he said. “I can’t give out the information yet, but it’s the first Hollywood movie I’m going to star in.”
In the past, Jam has starred in two action sequels – 2017’s XXX: Return of Xander Cage with Vin Diesel and 2020’s Bad Boys for Life with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. He also lent his voice in last year’s animated film Tom & Jerry.
“It’s a dream because all my life I’ve been a fan of movies and this Hollywood stuff,” Jam said. “It’s something I’ve always wanted in my life.”
