The Straw Hats are uniting – in Mexico and Brazil! On Thursday (August 10), Netflix announced they would be kicking off a 10-city tour across the globe on August 24 to celebrate the premiere of upcoming series, One Piece.

The events would serve as fan celebrations in the United States, France, Indonesia, Japan, Italy, Philippines, Thailand, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil.

One Piece is adapted from the world-renowned Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It stars Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, the main protagonist in the franchise. The story follows Luffy and his swashbuckling crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they venture into the high seas to find a mythical treasure known as the “One Piece.” Whoever is able to find the treasure is said to become the next Pirate King.

Mexico and Brazil are on the schedule for the last day of the tour. The fan celebrations will take place in Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro on the same day – August 31. In Mexico City, the event, which is dubbed “México Fan Fest,” will take place at Frontón Inclán, a few minutes south of the Monumento a la Revolución.

In Rio de Janeiro, the event, which is dubbed “Going Merry at Rio de Janeiro: A One Piece Fan Celebration,” will take place at the Copacabana Beach (near lifeguard station No. 2).

An adventure awaits, so grab your straw hat, and we’ll see you out at the celebrations!

One Piece premieres on Netflix on August 31, 2023.

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, One Piece being covered here wouldn’t exist.
