Season six of Orange Is the New Black ended on a somber note. Many (spoiler alert: turn away now if you haven’t seen it yet) of our hearts broke when we realized that Blanca Flores – played by Laura Gómez – wouldn’t be getting out of jail as she was led to believe. Instead, she was shuffled onto a bus and sent to an immigrant detention center. Now nearly a year later, OITNB will make its return and fill us in on what’s next for Blanca as well as the rest of the women we first met at Litchfield Penitentiary. Today, Netflix released a trailer for its seventh and final season, which looks to be pretty emotional.
While it’s difficult to piece together exactly what’s happening in the two-minute, 27-second trailer – clearly following Daya’s request for “no spoilers,” as she says in the video – we see tension between the characters Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and Maria (Jessica Pimentel). We also get a heartbreaking scene of Blanca in an immigrant detention center. Sitting behind a wire mesh fence, Blanca holds a phone receiver. Behind her, we see other immigrants crowded into a room. Flaca (Jackie Cruz) and Aleida (Elizabeth Rodriguez) also made an appearance. And though we don’t see her in the trailer, back in May, Diane Guerrero confirmed she would return as Maritza for the final season.
The entire video takes on a gloomy tone – aided in part by Dave Not Dave’s “Catch that Glory,” which played throughout the clip. But we see a few moments of fun mixed in – partially from old footage – which is hopefully Netflix’s way of telling us that there are some happily ever afters on the horizon.
According to Netflix, the final season will see Piper trying to go adjust to life outside of prison, Taystee and Cindy’s friendship continuing to take some hits, and “Gloria and her kitchen staff [will be] confronted by the harsh realities of Polycon’s newest profit stream.”
