It’s been nearly a year since we last saw the women of Litchfield prison from the Golden Globe-nominated Netflix drama Orange is the New Black. The previous five seasons have all debuted in June, but the radio silence regarding season six had been troubling. Now, Netflix has debuted a 19-second teaser trailer with a release date, and we might be in for a slew of new surprises outside of a change of release.

With less than 20 seconds of image, and no inclusion of the cast or any scenes from the actual season, the teaser plays like a coded message. We see the inside of the messy prison cafeteria with lingering tear gas. A cell phone on the table starts buzzing. A prison transport bus seemingly waits outside. The only inhabitant in the place: a rooster. As a window cover crashes and the sound of prison bars close we get only audio: “This is a whole new world.” The release date of July 27 appears on-screen and the season’s tagline: “To the Max” is presented. Does this mean the ladies are being transferred to a maximum security prison?

The late July release is interesting because the other seasons have all kicked off the summer, whereas season six is premiering in the middle. Regardless, anticipate this season to deal with the fallout of the prison riot, presented in real time, that dominated season five. At the conclusion of the series the women were being loaded into buses, but ten of the women were trying to hole up in a bunker only to see it broken into by officers. The answers of what happens to Piper and crew are coming, we’ll just have to wait a little bit longer to see them.

Orange Is the New Black season six debuts July 27 on Netflix.
