WATCH: Pedro Pascal Stars in ‘Freaky Tales’ Trailer Alongside the Late Angus Cloud

Pedro Pascal in Freaky Tales

Entertainment One

Pedro Pascal’s Freaky Tales has released its first trailer and though the movie doesn’t exactly look freaky, it does look like a lot of fun — especially if you lived through the 80s. Starring Pascal alongside a star-studded cast including Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, Angus Cloud, and Tom Hanks, the trailer focuses on the anthology movie’s eclectic band of characters.

From a robber who is determined he’s already completed his last job and is determined to move on to family life — played by Pascal, to an NBA star who knows how to wield a sword, and also featuring a corrupt cop, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a female rap duo, Freaky Friday’s trailer showcases a pop culture reference to seemingly everything that shaped the 80s, including hip-hop, sci-fi blockbusters and kung-fu movies and yes, sports.

The movie is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who worked on a few successful independent films before directing Captain Marvel. The movie originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival before Lionsgate picked it up for theatrical release.

The synopsis for the movie reads: “Set in 1987 Oakland, *Freaky Tales* is a multi-track mixtape of colorful characters –  an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a debt collector  – on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles. Executive produced by hip-hop pioneer Too $hort, and featuring an all-star ensemble including Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, Angus Cloud, and Tom Hanks, this pulpy blend of explosive action, edgy humor, gory kills, and sly twists and turns makes for one wild ride.”

Pascal’s next project, The Last of Us Season 2, is set to premiere on HBO in April. He will also appear as Reed Richards in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set for a July 25 release.
