Renowned filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar’s short film Strange Way of Life, which premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival, will now be available on Netflix. It stars Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke as a rancher and a sheriff who reunite after working together as hired gunmen twenty-five years before. And it’s one of two English-language films Almódovar has made in his career.
The film, which Almodóvar called his “answer to Brokeback Mountain” got a theatrical release last October. It was then released on MUBI. And now it’s coming to Netflix starting April 12.
While talking about the film, a western, Pascal said: “Whether it’s breaking down tropes that you find in westerns or masculinity, sexuality between men, love. If you’re anchoring yourself to a truthful telling of the story, you’re inherently expressing all of those things honoring them, deconstructing them, questioning them.”
Fan response to the announcement that the film would be released on Netflix was one of jubilation, with people remarking on the fact that they would now get to see the movie.
In other Pedro Pascal news, he just won a SAG Award for his performance as Joel Miller in The Last of Us, the first major award of his career. He’ll also be kept busy going forward, not just with the second season of the show but also with his starring role as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in Marvel’s new Fantastic Four adaptation.
Strange Way of Life’s run time is 31 minutes.
