With several television reboots turning to Latinx leads to breathe new life into old stories, one of the more surprising successes was this year’s retread of Roswell. The series received a second season order and The CW has set a midseason premiere date for it.

The original sci-fi/teen drama ran from 1999 to 2002. In the decades since, it’s become a cult classic. For the reboot, Roswell, New Mexico, the show transitioned into a solid story of anti-immigrant sentiment. Roswell, New Mexico – which will return March 16, 2020 at 9 p.m. as a follow-up to the final season of Supernatural – follows local diner waitress Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason) after she’s accidentally shot and then saved by the local sheriff and her former flame, Max Evans (Nathan Parsons). Liz discovers that Max, his sister and his best friend are all aliens who crash-landed on Earth during the infamous Roswell crash of 1947.

The ratings, particularly in the coveted 18 to 49 demographic, have remained consistently high throughout the entirety of season one. Viewership has dipped here and there, but it’s never been significant enough to threaten the series. Interestingly, the show was a midseason airing this year and looks to be maintaining that roll-out with season two.

Since it will be airing after Supernatural’s final season, there seems to be a belief from the network that the series will gain fans and receive a natural bump. Either way, pairing it up with their longest-running show is a sign of confidence
