On Monday, in Beverly Hills, Salma Hayek was honored by the women’s rights organization Equality Now for her dedication to gender equality. On the red carpet, before receiving the award, the Oscar-nominated actress felt the need to clarify her stance on feminism.
She told People Magazine, “I am not a feminist. If men were going through the things women are going through today, I would be fighting for them with just as much passion. I believe in equality.” Seriously Salma?
Sounds like someone skipped the first day of her Women’s Studies class. That is LITERALLY the definition of feminism.
At the most basic level, a feminist is a person who believes that men and women are equal and deserve equal rights. So, if you are not a feminist then you are, most certainly, an asshole.
Can the celebrities stop it with their “I’m not a feminist” nonsense already? When did it become cool to be against BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS?!?
