Reinforcing its squad with some major Latino powerhouses, Netflix’s cartel series Narcos is making money moves for its fourth season by bringing Diego Luna and Michael Peña into its ranks. Details about their roles, or whether they will be playing friends or enemies, have not been yet released.
For this new season of Narcos, the action and intrigue move from Colombia to Mexico, a natural progression considering the popularity of series about the subject matter across Latin America. Production is underway in Mexico City and the new episodes are expected to premiere in 2018. It’s also unclear if other local talent will be added to the lineup, but it would only be logical.
Peña will soon appear in what promises to be a colorful role in Ava DuVernay’s highly anticipated book adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time for Disney. Meanwhile, Diego’s most recent career highlight was being part of the Star Wars universe as Cassian Andor in Rogue One (yes, we are all trying to forget Flatliners).
Diego’s next big screen outing will be as part of the upcoming anthology film Berlin, I Love You, where he plays the lead in the segment directed by fellow Mexican, Fernando Eimbcke (Temporada de Patos). He is currently working on a stage play titled Privacidad in Mexico, alongside Club de Cuervos’ Luis Gerardo Méndez.
We are happy to know that while Gael basks in Coco’s ever glowing light of success, Diego is out there trying to return to the episodic format. Long gone are the days when he starred in the endearingly ridiculous telenovela El Premio Mayor.
