Wait, Season 4 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Is Already Written?

The third season of The Mandalorian has yet to premiere, but that didn’t stop Jon Favreau from writing season four ahead of schedule.

Although future seasons of the show, while likely, have not yet been officially confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm, Favreau says, “We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully formed story,” so he’s going against all rules and conventions and started writing season 4 while the third season was still in post-production.

While talking with French television station BFM TV, he confirmed the unusual move. “Season 4, yeah, I’ve written it already,” he says. He mentions he and Dave Filoni had already mapped out things while they were in the middle of that process. He adds, “Slowly, you start to write each episode.”

He and Filoni worked on interconnecting The Mandalorian and Ashoka (which Filoni is showrunning) to better understand what’s happening in each of the shows, along with the other Star Wars spinoffs, to make sure all stories work together. This move can be great since they all happen within the same universe, after all.

In season three, which premiers on March 1, The Mandalorian will continue following the story and adventures of Grogu and Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, who were reunited during The Book of Boba Fett after being separated at the end of last season.

With an ever-expanding Star Wars universe, it’s easy to get confused and fall out of the loop, but fear not: We have a refresher to prepare you for the season premiere.
