Social media has been ablaze today (Dec. 18) since fans of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian saw a post-credits scene featuring Boba Fett.

HERE COME THE SPOILER ALERTS:

After a tearful goodbye between Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, who is now in the hands of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), viewers who stayed through the credits were given a huge bonus scene. The scene featured Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) shooting their way inside the old palace of Jabba the Hutt where Jabba’s former lackey Bib Fortuna is now in charge. “Boba, I thought you were dead,” Bib says, laughing nervously. “I am so glad to see you.” But as all Star Wars fans know, Boba has a few scores to settle since he was left for dead in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Once Boba gives Bib his dues and takes his seat at the throne, the scene cuts to black and a title card appears: “The Book of Boba Fett. Coming December 2021.”

Since season 3 of The Mandalorian is supposed to premiere in December 2021, too, fans were a bit confused about what the teaser meant. Was The Book of Boba Fett a new spin-off series? Would it replace a new Mandalorian season? If it is a spin-off series, why wasn’t it announced at Disney’s Investor Day alongside the news of Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic?

Also, isn’t it an interesting coincidence that this teaser happened the day after actor Jeremy Bulloch, who played the original Boba Fett, died?

Whatever comes out of it, that’s sure a lot of Star Wars content for Star Wars fans to get excited about. Good thing the Galaxy is big enough.
