Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Sebastián Yatra is riding on Cloud 9 and could float even higher if the situation calls for it.
What’s one reason he’s so happy? Last month, “Dos Oruguitas,” the song he performed for last year’s hit Disney animated film Encanto, picked up an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda.
When asked recently on Good Morning America how he would react if “Dos Oruguitas” ended up winning the Oscar, Yatra responded with an unexpected answer. “I’d probably go hug [Leonardo] DiCaprio or something, even though he doesn’t know who I am,” Yatra said. “He’ll just be like, ‘What just happened?’ That’ll probably be what I do.”
Hey, everyone is allowed an occasional fanboy moment, right? We all have our man crushes.
Yatra found out “Dos Oruguitas” was nominated during the live broadcast of the Oscar nominees the morning of February 8. He was watching TV at home in Colombia with his family when he heard the song’s title and immediately jumped on the couch. “It all felt a lot like Encanto,” he said on GMA. “This song is just beautiful.”
Over his career, DiCaprio has shared plenty of affection in his movies with several celebrities including Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet, Kate Winslet in Titanic and Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street. One could even argue he got a bear hug from an actual bear in The Revenant. So, a big hug from Yatra probably wouldn’t be such a big deal.
Here’s hoping that “Dos Oruguitas” nabs the Oscar later this month and Yatra and DiCaprio share a moment. It not like we didn’t see this coming.
Sebastián Yatra also recently performed “Tacones Rojos” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
