Selena Gomez is going back to Waverly Place. The actress and singer is set to reprise the role of Alex Russo in a sequel to the show that launched her career in Wizards of Waverly Place. David Henrie, who played Gomez’s on-screen sibling, is also set to return to the show. The revival will follow a new and powerful young wizard in need of training.

Gomez confirmed the news on her Instagram stories and posted a photo from the series with the caption, “WE’RE BACK.”

For now, Gomez is only set to return for the pilot, which Disney Branded Television has ordered. She and Henrie will also executive produce the series. No word on whether Gomez would make more appearances if the series is picked up. Henrie is set to be a series regular. He will be joined by Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.

The series will follow an adult Justin Russo, who has left his wizard powers behind to live a normal life with his wife and two kids. However, he will be forced to go back to that life after he comes into contact with a young wizard who needs his help.

Running from 2007 to 2012, Wizards of Waverly Place introduced audiences to the Russo family, a seemingly normal family that just so happens to consist of three kids with magical abilities who must one day compete to become the sole wizard in the family. Gomez’s character of Alex Russo was a fan-favorite and the subject of much speculation regarding her sexual orientation.

The character was recently confirmed to be bisexual by Peter Murrieta, the showrunner for the first four seasons of the show. No word yet on whether that confirmation will become canon in the revival.

Selena Gomez currently stars in the Hulu comedy Only Murders in the Building, which has garnered her multiple nominations as Best Actress in a Comedy for her role as Mabel Mora. She is also an executive producer of the show.
