Even though the Quintanillas blocked Chris Perez from turning his book, To Selena, With Love, into a TV series in 2017, the family is gearing up to create its own show, inspired by La Reina de Tejano. According to Variety, ABC gave a put pilot commitment to a program that pays tribute to her legacy, though it’s not about her life. The put pilot, which Variety defines as “a deal to produce a pilot that includes substantial penalties if the pilot is not aired,” practically guarantees that the pilot will become a series.

Miguel Nolla (Grey’s Anatomy) will write and co-executive produce the show. And Abraham Quintanilla, and daughter Suzette will also produce the yet-to-be-named series. It will follow Alex Guerra, a huge pop star who’s forced to return home to her estranged family. “Alex finds herself back in Texas, juggling a love triangle, the demands of her career and the dark secrets of the family that she now desperately wants to win back,” Variety reports.

There’s no word yet on how Selena’s musical legacy will shape the program, but we’re excited to find out.
