The first trailer for the highly anticipated superhero sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods debuted at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (July 23), and fans of Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) were excited to see the young actress take on the role.

Although Zegler was not at the conference, she recorded a message to attendees to let them know how much she enjoyed playing Anthea, one of the three daughters of Atlas portrayed in the new movie. Joining Zegler on the video message was Oscar winner Helen Mirren (The Queen), who plays Hespera, one of the older daughters. Actress Lucy Liu plays the final daughter.

“It was so much fun playing Athena,” Zegler said in the video. “She is so wonderfully complex. Getting to work with Helen and Lucy was amazing.” Also, a quick note: Zegler’s character’s name is Anthea – not Athena or Antaeus!

On Twitter, Zelger released a photo of Anthea from the trailer and captioned it, “Oh hey girllllllllll.” Others posted a two-second clip that shows Anthea using her powers to shift the terrain under her and a group of characters. Is it just us, or are we getting some Doctor Strange vibes from her?

During the video, Mirren thanked director David F. Sandberg for bringing her, Zegler, and Liu together to play sisters. “We really bonded and made friends for life,” she said. “Yay! Pussy power!”

Zegler laughed and raised her fists in the air in agreement with Mirren’s assessment. “Pussy power, I know!”

Rachel Zegler’s screen time in the trailer is short, but at least now we know that she is playing a goddess (not surprising) — and that she’s going to give the Shazamily some major problems.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will debut in theaters on December 21, 2022.
