Netflix is all in for Sofia Carson. According to Deadline, the streaming giant recently announced it was continuing its relationship with the actress after the success of their film Purple Hearts this past summer.
Now, Carson will star in the Netflix thriller Carry On. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows), Carry On follows a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed on Christmas Day by someone trying to get a dangerous package on their flight.
Joining Carson in the cast are Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Danielle Deadwyler (Harder They Fall), and Jason Bateman (Ozark).
“Thrilled to star alongside Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman in our film Carry On directed by the legendary Jaume Collet-Serra,” Carson wrote on social media. “Thank you, Steven Spielberg, Holly Bario, Leslee Feldman, and my [Amblin] family. Thank you to my [Netflix] family. What a flight this will be…Ps. I’ve been holding on to this secret, and I am so happy it’s finally yours. Ready for take off.”
According to Deadline, Purple Hearts debuted at No. 1 globally and broke multiple viewing records on Netflix. With over 220 million hours viewed in its first 28 days, it is one of the streamer’s Top 10 most-watched films of all time. Remezcla called it “the perfect kind of comfort movie.”
Along with her work in the entertainment industry, Sofia Carson is also keeping busy as a philanthropist. Earlier this year, she committed to financing a four-year scholarship for a student attending the Berklee School of Music this fall. “This is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Carson said. “To be able to use my voice and my platform in this way is the most important thing I can do.”
