Heads up Miles Morales Fans: Production for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Sequel Has Begun

Spider-Man fans and fans of Afro-Latino comic book character Miles Morales, will be happy to know that production for the Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse sequel is underway.

Lead animator of the Sony Pictures Animation film, Nick Kondo, tweeted the news on June 8, with Into the Spider-Verse co-director Phil Lord quickly retweeting it with a “Welcome home” message.

Originally scheduled for an April 2022 release, Sony now plans to release the sequel on October 7, 2022. Details on the film are scarce, but we do know that Shameik Moore (who voices Morales) will return and other cast members. Deadline reports that Portuguese-American filmmaker Joaquim Dos Santos is directing and Dave Callaham is scripting.

The original Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has garnered much recognition for its prevalent representation and countless of awards, including an Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019.
