It’s been nearly a year since Starz audiences have heard anything about Tanya Saracho’s series, Vida. The first season concluded ten months ago and in June it was announced that a season two was happening. The show, about two sisters who return to their Eastside neighborhood in the wake of their mother’s death, received high praise for its honest look at family, with several Latino critics specifically praising it for its authenticity. Now, season two has finally received a premiere date and the Starz network is doing something a little different with the show this year.

It’s been announced the series will debut on the Starz network May 26, though if you’re open to using the Starz app you’ll be able to binge all ten episodes of season two instantly starting on May 23. If you recall, the first episode of the series debuted for free on Starz prior to release as a means of whetting appetites. The second season is set to find Lyn (Melissa Barrera) and Emma (Mishel Prada) dealing with their own relationships, their mother’s business, and the continuing gentrification of their neighborhood.

The series wasn’t a huge ratings hit last year, but since Starz is a network still reliant on subscribers they can continue to fund series that, while not ratings juggernauts, have an established fanbase and earned critical acclaim. Vida’s placement as a powerful Latinx series, in a landscape where Netflix axed One Day at a Time, is important and worth supporting. Considering how many fans have taken Vida to heart there’s no doubt season two will be packed with as much humor and genuine relationships.

Vida season two premieres May 26, 2019, and will air weekly on Starz at 8 p.m. All episodes will be available on the Starz app beginning May 23.
