It looks like Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto) is going to have to learn how to hotwire a car for her next project.
The 41-year-old actress has signed on to join the cast of the half-hour Peacock series Twisted Metal, which is based on the vehicular combat video game series that first debuted in 1995. Twisted Metal features a competition where drivers in various modified vehicles get behind the wheel to destroy their opponents in a post-apocalyptic world.
According to Deadline, Beatriz will play a car thief named Quiet, who comes from a community that has forced her into silence. At some point, she decides to seek vengeance on those who have wronged her and teams up with the character known as John Doe. In the TV series, the Doe character will be played by Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier).
On social media, Beatriz didn’t say much about her new role besides reposting an article from Deadline, but she did include some dangerous-looking emojis like axes, explosions, and cars.
Some of Beatriz’s famous friends, however, were excited for her. Actress Diane Guerrero (Encanto) posted three fire emojis. Actress Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) commented, “YEAHHHHHH!!!! LETS GOOOO!!!!!” Actress Angelique Cabral (Undone) wrote, “There she is.”
Up next for Stephanie Beatriz are a pair of voice roles. She will play Batwoman in the animated film Catwoman: Hunted and reprise her role as Chloe Barbash in The Bob’s Burgers Movie. Earlier this year, she lent her voice to a character named Lady Kima of Vord for Amazon Prime’s adult animated fantasy The Legend of Vox Machina.
