The Sundance Film Festival is coming back to Mexico City in 2026, and now we know when. The festival of independent cinema will return to the Mexican capital from April 30-May 3, 2026, in collaboration with Cinépolis, the leading film exhibition company in Mexico and Latin America.
Sundance Film Festival: CDMX first launched in 2024, in an effort to provide films with a wider platform and create a space for independent films to be celebrated. Screenings will take place at Cinépolis Diana, Cinépolis Mitikah, Cinépolis Oasis, Coyoacán, Cinépolis Plaza Carso and Cinépolis VIP Miyana.
“We are excited to be planning another edition of Sundance Film Festival: CDMX. Our 2026 festival in April will again showcase a selection of new films from around the world for Mexico City moviegoers,” said Eugene Hernandez, Director, Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming. “We have enjoyed getting to know CDMX audiences the past two years and our programming team is curating a selection that will engage and entertain. We hope lovers of independent storytelling will join us next month for this third year of Sundance Film Festival: CDMX.”
“From Cinépolis’ point of view, the festival represents a way of experiencing cinema as a comprehensive experience that opens dialogue and encompasses different visions of the world and its current context. Sundance Film Festival: CDMX is a platform that connects independent talent with new audiences,” said Alejandro Ramírez, CEO of Cinépolis.
He added, “With this third edition, we seek to strengthen the local creative ecosystem and position diverse international cinema offerings in Mexico City, in order to create spaces for the exchange of ideas and to generate conversations about international cinema.”
The program has yet to be announced, but the 2026 edition is set to include a selection of films originally presented at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, as well as special screenings and activities.
The main festival took place from January 22 to February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. Starting in 2027, the main festival will be relocating to Boulder, Colorado.
