The official trailer for the Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder debuted Monday night (May 23) and the online reactions were more powerful than a big bag of Mjölnirs.

Although we could’ve used a lot more of her in the trailer, actress Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie (or is it King Valkyrie?) is featured throughout the preview, signaling that she might be tired of her time on Earth and ruling New Asgard.

When it’s revealed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) might not have control of his hammer any longer and that his ex-girlfriend Jane (The Mighty Thor, perhaps?) has returned, Valkyrie asks Thor if seeing Jane after eight years has renewed any familiar sensations inside him.

“Am I, uh, sensing feelings?” Valkyrie asks him. Thor responds, “Pfft. Ha! Yeah, right!” It doesn’t seem, however, like Valkyrie believes him.

Later, Valkyrie is seen fighting the movie’s main villain, Gorr the God Butcher, who is played by Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale (The Fighter). Is that a golden lightning bolt in her hand?

At the end of the trailer, Zeus, the king of the Olympians, who is played by Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator), uses his powers to tear off Thor’s clothes and ends up showing off his toned physique. Valkyrie and Jane sit in the wings wearing cloaks wondering if they should help him. “I mean, eventually,” Valkyrie says. She then offers Jane a grape, which makes us believe she isn’t too worried about Thor’s ability to protect himself.

Also on Monday night, Marvel released the new Thor: Love and Thunder poster, which features Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie riding a Pegasus and wielding a sword while in full armor.

If that doesn’t scream Asgardian royalty, we don’t know what does.

Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters on July 8, 2022.
