The second season of Netflix’s reality dating show The Boyfriend has just premiered, and if there’s one thing you probably didn’t expect to see in Japan’s first gay romance reality series, it’s a contestant from our communities. But yes, there is indeed a Latino on this season of The Boyfriend, and he’s got a pretty big storyline.
William, a 34-year-old IT Company Project Manager with Peruvian heritage, is part of the cast of Season 2 of the show. Netflix describes William as “a popular man who dreams of getting married. He was hurt in a previous relationship and is struggling to take the next step.”

Season 1 of The Boyfriend was a breakout success for the streamer, and Season 2 moves the setting to Hokkaido, where participants will live together for two months and operate a coffee truck together, as they discover what romantic connections—and friendships can grow amid the cold.
Even from the trailer, we could see William was going to be at the center of the drama, or at least the narratives of Season 2. Which contestant did he know before? And how will that relationship develop once they’re forced to spend 24/7 sharing a space?
The logline for the season reads: “Celebrated for its genuine portrayal of romance and friendship among young men, the breakout Japanese reality series The Boyfriend has been renewed for a second season. Meet a new group of boys who will share their stories from Hokkaido in winter.”
Episodes will be released as follows:
- January 13: Episodes 1-6
- January 20: Episodes 7-9
- January 27: Episodes 10-12
- February 3: Episodes 13-15
