HBO has announced that season 2 of The Last of Us, which is set to premiere on Sunday, April 13, will be available to stream in American Sign Language (ASL) each week. The first season of the show will also be available to stream on ASL starting Friday, March 31, so people can catch up before Season 2.
Pedro Pascal stars in the series as Joel Miller, opposite Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams. Season 2 will also see the return of Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy and the addition of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Ellie’s love interest Dina.
This will be the first time HBO’s original programming will be available to stream in ASL on Max. ASL versions of Warner Bros films like Barbie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, have been available before. The Last of Us with ASL is performed by Daniel Durant and Leila Hanaumi. Hanaumi also directed the first season of the show with ASL.
“We are thrilled to expand our ASL program and debut our first HBO Original series in ASL with The Last of Us,” said Naomi Waibel, SVP of Global Product Management at WBD. “This debut brings the show to life in an authentic and fully accessible way for Deaf audiences and is another meaningful step towards our goal of offering an inclusive streaming experience.”

Pascal will be seen before The Last of Us on Freaky Tales, which is set to open in theaters on Friday, April 4. Afterwards, he’s set to appear on the rom-com Materialists, opposite Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, and of course, in July, he will appear as Reed Richards in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
