The trailer is OUT for Gloria, a biopic about one of Mexico’s biggest and most controversial pop stars, Gloria Trevi. The trailer itself looks a little PG-13 but its chock full of 80’s hair, sequined bras, and Gloria’s signature tongue ‘IDGAF’ move to the cameras (aww, Miley thought she was being original).
The biopic is a collaboration between production companies in Mexico, Brazil, and the United States. It will be directed by Christian Keller and the script written by Sabina Berman, a four-time winner of the National Playwriting Award in Mexico. In the titular role of Gloria, will be Sofia Espinosa best known for her role as Paty on the HBO Spanish-language prison drama Capadocia.
I’m curious to see how they portray the events that led to Gloria and her ex-manager Sergio Andrade’s arrest for “corrupting minors” and her 4 year imprisonment. (She was later cleared of charges for “lack of evidence”).
Gloria Trevi herself is in a legal battle with the film’s producers because she claims she never signed-off on the project while the producers are saying she did, all the while reminding her that they own the rights to her LIFE. Fame is a scary thing.
Gloria will be released September 5 in theaters across Mexico. Cross your fingers that it makes it stateside real soon!
