TRAILER: First Look at ‘Matador’ Series About a Soccer Star Who Doubles as a Spy

We gave you a little taste of the new action series Matador a few months ago, but this trailer gives us our first glimpse at what the show actually looks like. Unfortunately, there’s still not much to go on, except for a little bit of Alfred Molina doing what Alfred Molina does best: being fucking great in everything.

Matador, which tells the story of Tony “Matador” Bravo, a CIA operative doubling as a soccer star, is the second original series on Robert Rodriguez’s newish El Rey network.

In addition to Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spider Man 2) playing Andrés Galan, the billionaire owner of the LA Riot soccer team, the cast includes Gabriel Luna (NCIS: Los Angeles, Prison Break) in the title role of Tony “Matador” Bravo and Elizabeth Peña (Tortilla Soup, Modern Family) as Maritza Sandoval, Tony’s mother.

Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie are showrunning, along with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. We’re optimistic, due to the crazy team (and Alfred Molina), not to mention that El Rey’s other show, From Dusk Till Dawn, is more awesome than it gets widespread credit for.

Matador premieres on El Rey July 15, just two days after the World Cup final.
