After nearly a year of anticipation, we finally have an idea about what to expect from Netflix’s Selena: The Series after the trailer was released yesterday, October 26. The emotional clips have us waiting on the edge of our seats for December 4 when the first season will drop on Netflix. We can’t wait to see the life of the Queen of Tejano Music play on the small screen.

Twitter users passionately reacted to the trailer. Some are eager to witness recreations of powerful moments from the singer’s tragically short life, while others feel like the trailer was a letdown and worry the show won’t do justice to the record-breaking award-winning artist. Some felt that Netflix was white-washing Selena and others thought Demi Lovato would have been a better fit for the role.

Here’s what they had to say about the new TV series that depicts the life of the star who had the first album by a Latina to hit number one, “Dreaming of You,” in 1995.

@nicoleeemoon: I love Selena but I don’t like this… and someone said the girl looks more like Jennifer Lopez when she played Selena not Selena herself and I completely agree

@aintnoaccidentx: thinking…..

@CoatlicueLisa: Actual Selena was a bronze goddess not a white washed depiction. Even a Latino lead project falls into white washing our people

@jayboogeeee: Excited for the series, but anyone else bummed the actress playing Selena isn’t “thicker?” Selena was always a role model for her bigger hips/booty and body positivity & then they go and cast a twig?

@PaulSpetrini: Really looking forward to @netflix presenting a super compelling and interesting look into the life of Selena and then getting bored and cancelling it after one season just because thats what they do.

@dnc510: I know there’s a lot of people bringing up the fact that we already have the Selena movie, but remember that you can only fit so much into a movie. The whole point of this is that they had more of an opportunity to tell her story with greater detail than they could with the movie

@MissTaryn30: Do I love the original and having my heart broken yes I did will I be watching the new series heartbroken all over again because she’s so amazing yes I will

@janidelfrod: I want to see this but i know I’m gonna be sad because we all knows what happens in the end. Selena will always be a queen.
