Late astrologer Walter Mercado is returning from the afterlife, but not in the way he would’ve probably described when he was talking about the facets of astrology on TV shows across Latin America and the United States for decades.

Mercado’s estate is currently working with Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell’s 3Pas Studios to develop a scripted and unscripted series on the famed TV personality. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the programs will focus on the cultural impact that Mercado had in the Latine and LGBTQ communities.

“I have always deeply admired Walter and am personally thrilled to have the opportunity to honor his legacy of love, hope and positivity,” Derbez told THR.

Theodore B. Gekis, the manager of Mercado’s estate, said that although Walter died three years ago, the messages he left for his viewers about self-empowerment and interconnectedness with the universe still live on.

“Love, spirituality, generosity and goodwill are universal, and become more and more relevant with each passing day,” Gekis said. “Walter was a man ahead of his time, and the time has come for the rest of us to catch up with him.”

One of Mercado’s nieces, Dannette Benet Mercado, added that she was excited to see everyone “work[ing] together to help carry on our uncle Walter’s message of love, positivity and inclusion and introduce his legacy to new generations.”

In 2020, Netflix released the documentary Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado. “We wanted to share him,” co-director Cristina Costantini told Remezcla at the time. “I think we have been so lucky to have grown up with him. But we wanted other people to feel this love, too.”

After his death in November 2019, Remezcla called Mercado “a man with an impact so wide and deep that it will undoubtedly outlive his physical time on Earth.” As much of a showman as he was, it’s no surprise that Mercado’s enduring impact will include his fans getting to see him on TV once again.
