America Ferrera has her own Barbie. The Superstore star recently revealed the Mattel doll made in the likeness of her character in the upcoming Barbie movie directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird).
“This Barbie is an actual Barbie!” Ferrera wrote on social media alongside a photo of herself posing with her doll.
Ferrera continued: “[Mattel] made dolls inspired by our #BarbieTheMovie characters. Meet Gloria the doll who is not a doll, she’s a human but now she’s a doll. Don’t think too hard about it, it’ll make sense when you see the movie.”
Late last month, a new trailer gave audiences their first glimpse of Ferrera’s character in the movie. Although it is still unknown exactly who Gloria is in the film, the trailer leads us to believe she is a human employee at the Mattel headquarters in the Real World who meets Barbie when the popular doll journeys outside of Barbieland to discover her true existence.
Fellow Latina actress Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) responded to Ferrera’s post with a positive, “WOOO LETS GO!!!” Mattel’s official Barbie Instagram called Ferrera “Picture perfect.”
Ferrera’s Barbie is dressed in a nearly all-pink outfit with pinstripe pants, a blouse, and a jacket. The doll is also designed wearing hoop earrings and multicolored heels with straps that wrap around its ankles.
The promo video released by the brand features reactions from the cast as they see their Barbie dolls for the first time. This includes reactions from Ferrera, Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu, who is portraying one of the Ken dolls in the movie.
We’re looking forward to seeing exactly how Gloria fits into the Barbie movie and how America Ferrera brings her character to life in such a star-studded cast.
