Imagine a Marvel movie where the superheroes don’t have superpowers and aren’t wearing super suits. That’s the sort of feeling you get watching the first trailer of The Gray Man, the upcoming action flick directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

The Russo Brothers, of course, are well known in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’ve directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

In The Gray Man, the duo welcomes back Captain America star Chris Evans to the team to play former CIA cohort Lloyd Hansen, who is tapped to hunt down Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), AKA Sierra Six, a fellow special-ops operative on the run. Ana de Armas (Deep Water) also joins in the thrills as Agent Dani Miranda, who is helping Hansen on his assassination mission.

In the first trailer for The Gray Man, which takes the prize as Netflix’s most expensive production ever at $200 million, de Armas describes a covert program to one of her colleagues when he asks her what she knows about it. “Reckless mystery men you guys send in when you can’t officially send it anyone else,” she says.

In another scene, de Armas is seen inside a car with Gentry and asks him if he is hurt. “I mean, my ego’s a little bruised,” he responds.

Later, Ana de Armas gets in on some of the action when she stabs someone while wearing a white suit and blue tie and is then seen driving a red sports car and slamming it into the back of another vehicle. The things you’ll do on a high-speed chase, huh?

The Gray Man will open at limited theaters on July 15, 2022, and then stream on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
