George Miller’s 2015 movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, reignited fans’ decades-long love for the hit franchise. Now, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga introduces a much younger Imperator Furiosa, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, in a harrowing new trailer that builds on the role made famous by Charlize Theron.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga explores the history of Furiosa and how she was taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers and forced to survive in a war between a biker warlord Dementus (played by Chris Hemsworth) and the twisted villain from Fury Road, Immortan Joe. As Furiosa survives countless deadly trials, she finds her strength and begins her journey to be the hero the fallen world needs.

When Charlize Theron was Furiosa, she introduced a powerful woman with an important mission. Her character, as well as the film, helped redefine action movies and action movie heroines. Even now, especially with Anya Taylor-Joy in the role, it’s clear that fans are ready to see Furiosa on the big screen again.

The SAG-AFTRA strikes put a hold on film and TV production for some time. Plus, with the consistent output of franchise content like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars, audiences like legendary game developer Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid, Death Stranding) speak for countless fans when expressing their excitement for an action movie that stands apart from the rest.

Anya Taylor-Joy is no stranger to action movies, with The New Mutants showing her chops while playing a superhero. But Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga offers the actress a chance to venture into a new version of action cinema with director George Miller. Now, audiences will see a new look at an iconic heroine in an origin with incredible visuals and an even greater potential.
