Super Bowl LIX and its iconic ads are around the corner. On February 5, a new Mountain Dew commercial was revealed, featuring Mexican-American pop star Becky G, British singer SEAL, and the brand’s very own The Mountain Dude.
“Nothing hits like an ice-cold Mountain Dew Baja Blast and good times with my crew,” Becky said about the collaboration in a press statement. “Partnering with a brand that knows how to bring the energy and get the party started feels like a perfect fit. Prepárate para el, Super Bowl LIX—¡vamos a pasarla increíble!”
The new commercial features the “Por El Contrario” singer receiving a Baja Blast from The Mountain Dude and drinking it. She then gets transported to a boat next to The Mountain Dude, where he tells her that the drink is “kissed by the perfect amount of tropical lime.” That’s when the chorus to SEAL’s iconic 90s song “Kiss From A Rose” starts, cuing in the singer as a seal – yes, in full-on animal form.
The cherry on top? New song lyrics about Mountain Dew Baja Blast, about how weird SEAL feels as a seal, and the trouble he has having flippers instead of hands… all sung on top of the iconic melody.
“Well, this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen,” Becky says towards the end of the commercial.
