The first teaser trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is here and Jenna Ortega feels right at home in this world. The sequel sees Ortega first appearing while riding her bike across town in the same outfit we saw in the first-look pictures, minus the trenchcoat. And it’s all to the tune of a rendition of Harry Belafonte’s “Day O.”

Then, we see the exact same scene from the previously released stills, with Astrid standing next to her mother Lydia (Winona Ryder) and grandmother Delia (Catherine O’Hara), at what seems to be a funeral. Later, we see her uncovering the model of the town from the original movie, which was covered by a white sheet. This all leads to the appearance of the iconic Beetlejuice, who later in the trailer says to Lydia: “The juice is loose.”

According to the official synopsis, “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

Ryder and O’Hara are reprising their roles from the 1988 movie. And Ortega will play Lydia’s daughter Astrid. Justin Theroux, meanwhile, will play a character by the name of Rory. Michael Keaton will, of course, return as the title character of Beetlejuice. Tim Burton will also return to direct the film.

The original film saw Lydia and her family move into the home of a recently deceased couple. Unhappy to see their home occupied, the two return as ghosts and attempt to scare the family away with the help of an uncouth entity, Beetlejuice (Keaton).

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be released on September 6, 2024.
