A TikTok user is getting a lot of attention for her uncanny resemblance to one of Colombia’s most beloved characters on TV: Betty, la fea.
Maria Ordóñez has been entertaining her followers on the social media site for a few months as Beatriz “Betty” Aurora Pinzón Solano, the main protagonist of the sitcom Yo soy Betty, la fea. The character was played for 156 episodes by actress Ana María Orozco between 1999 and 2001. When the show was remade for American audiences as Ugly Betty in 2006, Betty was played by actress America Ferrera.
The very first video that Ordóñez posted was in October 2021, where she showed her followers how she transforms into the character with makeup, a new hairstyle, and a pair of oversized glasses.
Later, she added some braces to her look by using a phone filter. She also started to put a lot more energy into her outfit choices for the character.
In most of the videos that Ordóñez, she lip sync’s to the show’s original dialogue. She’s also started using more props for her online performances.
In her newest videos, Ordóñez seems to have taken a fan’s advice and ditched the virtual braces for “real” ones. We’re not sure if Ordóñez got braces herself or if they are fake braces, but they really make the character come to life even more.
Currently, Ordóñez has more than 72,000 followers on TikTok. A new video she posted a couple of days ago went viral and garnered nearly three million views. The video features the song “Si No Me Quieres Ni modo” by Pedro Infante.
