We Feed People, the upcoming Disney+ documentary on Chef José Andrés and his nonprofit organization World Central Kitchen (WCK), takes viewers to the frontlines where volunteers provide meals to people experiencing humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), the documentary follows Andrés and his team as they travel across the globe to help feed communities, support food security, and change lives.

While WCKs are set up all over the world, the humanitarian aid that the organization is giving migrants who are fleeing Ukraine is what is currently in the headlines. As soon as Russian forces invaded Ukraine in late February, Andrés and WCK were at the Ukraine-Poland border distributing hot meals to those in need and providing the support needed.

In We Feed People, Howard covers 12 years of work by the WCK – from their start as “a scrappy group of volunteers to becoming one of the most highly-regarded humanitarian aid organizations in the disaster relief sector.”

The trailer for the documentary starts with Andrés on a boat in floodwaters trying to make it to people who have been displaced by a severe storm. “I hope we are able to feed the people,” Andrés says. “And I hope that we are going to be safe.”

Andrés covers the origin story of the WCK and how he wanted to create an organization that could respond to life-threatening events – like Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017 – by making sure that “food is an agent of change.”

With all the work that Chef José Andrés and WCK are doing in Ukraine right now, we’re sure We Feed People is going to inspire a sequel.

We Feed People debuts on Disney+ on May 27, 2022.
