In the 2019 psychological horror film Escape Room, a group of six people are invited to participate in an escape room for a chance to win $10,000. Little do they know, not everyone who plays the game is going to leave the series of rooms alive.

The deadly games return for a sequel, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, where the two survivors from the first movie, Zoey Davis (Taylor Russell) and Ben Miller (Logan Miller), are tasked with a new set of rooms to escape from – this time with a new set of teammates, including Puerto Rican, Dominican and Haitian actress Indya Moore (TV’s Pose) and Puerto Rican and Mexican actor and singer Carlito Olivero (TV’s East Los High).

In the first trailer for the film, Ben tells Zoey that they were lucky to get out of the escape rooms in the last movie alive. Zoey wants to know that the game masters who killed the four people are held accountable. While on the subway together with a group of strangers, the train car Ben and Zoey are riding in breaks loose and everyone on board becomes trapped in another round of puzzles that could lead to the players’ deaths if not solved correctly or in time. “Look, we all know how this works,” Rachel (Holland Roden), one of the new characters, says. “We solve the puzzles or we die.”

Some of the killer game scenarios include electrified subway handles, laser traps and quicksand. At one point, Olivero’s character doesn’t look like he fares too well when he grabs a hold of a pole inside the subway car and electrocutes himself. We’re not sure who is going to come out of this movie still standing, but it is, after all, just a game, so it should be loads of fun.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions premieres at theaters July 16.
