Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is coming in hot. A new trailer for the highly-anticipated film was released today (May 23), featuring Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, and Michael Keaton.

“Here’s a preview. Be warned. It’s intense,” Lydia (Ryder) says as the following scene confirms the previous trailer’s speculation of a funeral. Shots of Astrid Deetz (Ortega), mother Lydia, and grandmother Delia (Catherine O’Hara) are shown, revealing whose funeral it is.

“Can’t believe Grandpa is dead,” Astrid says. Lydia responds: “Death is hard,” to which Astrid replies: “Yeah, sometimes I think life is harder,” as the two sit on a bench. The next scene shows Lydia explaining to her daughter how, when she was a teenager, a “trickster demon” haunted her family and tried to forcefully marry her. Another scene shows a curious Astrid unveiling a model of her town from the original film.

“I believed he was gone forever until you found this in the attic,” Lydia says. The next scene shows Astrid asking who Beetlejuice (Keaton) is. Lydia warns her daughter not to say his name three times; however, the daughter rebels – and that’s when Beetlejuice makes his grand entrance. “The Juice is loose,” he says as he apparently returns to haunt Lydia’s family.

According to the official film’s synopsis: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

The new trailer also reveals looks from other movie stars, such as Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. Eagle-eyed fans also noticed a quick cameo from Danny DeVito.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be released on Sept. 6.
