A premiere date for Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming drama The Mother has been announced. Netflix will begin streaming the film on May 12, 2023.

Directed by Niki Caro (Mulan), The Mother tells the story of a female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter (Lucy Paez) that she gave up years before.

The news was revealed in a trailer previewing all the movies that Netflix would release in 2023. These are You People, Your Place or Mine, Luther: The Fallen Sun, Murder Mystery 2, Extraction 2, They Cloned Tyrone, Heart of Stone, Lift, Damsel, Pain Hustlers, The Killer, A Family Affair, Leo, Leave the World Behind, and Rebel Moon.

Clips for each of these movies were included in the preview trailer. The clip for The Mother comes at the 1:02 mark in the video below and features Lopez kneeling in the show and embracing her estranged daughter. It’s followed by another scene where Lopez says, “I’m whatever I need to be to keep her safe.”

That was followed by JLo’s character pulling a gun on someone.

A teaser trailer for The Mother was released last September that features her character doing pull-ups outside of a log cabin on an isolated piece of snow-covered property. The preview also shows some of the weapons that are at her disposal. Is that JLo dragging a dead elk through the snow? Good thing her arms are ripped the same way they were 21 years ago when she starred in the 2002 crime drama Enough.

Netflix might be showing off all its stars like Julia Roberts, Eddie Murphy, Gal Gadot, Kevin Hart, Nicole Kidman, Adam Sandler, and Reese Witherspoon in its 2023 preview, but it’s Jennifer Lopez who we’re most excited to see in a non-rom-com type role.
