Sofía Vergara has fully stepped into the shoes of Griselda Blanco. The Colombian actress, better known for starring as Gloria Delgado in the hit ABC comedy Modern Family, which ran for 11 seasons, is taking on a new challenge in Griselda – and she looks almost unrecognizable in the role. The same thing goes for Karol G, who we get a first glimpse of in the newest trailer.

The official trailer, which debuted Wednesday, November 30th, gives us our first extended look at Vergara as Griselda Blanco. Widely known as “the Godmother,” Blanco created one of the most profitable cartels in history in 1970-1980’s Miami.

In it we see Vergara, sporting dark, curly hair and a severe look, building her empire from scratch. “I swear. I know what I’m doing,” she says at the beginning, and yet at various points during the emotional, violent, and gripping trailer it seems like she doesn’t. Like Griselda Blanco isn’t in control.

And then she turns it around. “This is the country of dreams,” she tells a group of women, one of them being Karol G in a brown wig, making it easy to miss her at first glance. Later on in the trailer we get to see Karol G again in a patterned top and smoking while Griselda is on the phone.

“We have the power to bring excitement back into their boring lives.” That’s exactly what Vergara does, as we see her embody Blanco in every sense, at one point shooting someone in the face and later beating a man with a baseball bat. Gloria Pritchett is no more. Sofía Vergara is now fully Griselda Blanco.

“After all that I have been through, I’m not gonna give it away for nothing,” Vergara’s character tells a room full of men near the end of the trailer. And we believe her. We might even be rooting for her.

Griselda is a limited series from the creators and executive producers of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Vergara is also an executive producer.
