WATCH: Namor Makes Return in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser Trailer
Avengers: Doomsday is almost a year away, but we already know a lot about what we can expect to see in the movie. Including the return of Robert Downey Jr., this time not as Tony Stark but Dr. Doom, Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers, and of course, recent characters like Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four. But the new trailer for the movie features the return of another character we have not seen since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Namor returns in the teaser trailer, alongside Shuri and M’Baku. In the one-minute teaser, we can see Shuri and M’Baku meeting with Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. “I’ve lost everyone that mattered to me,” says Shuri in a voiceover, as we see some of the Talokan, Namor’s people.
“A King has his duties. To prepare our people for the afterlife,” she continues, as the screen finally settles on Namor sitting on a throne. “I have mine.” Then, we get to the meeting with Ben.
It’s only a short glimpse of the character, but another aconfirmation that he will indeed return in Avengers: Doomsday. He’s also sporting a new look. He’s seen wearing a black cloak with a high collar trimmed in gold. Near him is a spear that looks different from the one he had in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Instead of a spear end it looks sleek and has glowing blue sections.
His name had been brought up quite a few times during the Fantastic Four press tour, as in the comics, Namor has a romantic interest in Sue Storm. Whether any of that comes to play in the movie or not, Pedro Pascal has already joked that Reed Richards and Sue Storm are solid, Namor notwithstanding.
The other three teasers for the movie featured, in order, Steve Rogers, the former Captain America, alongside his child, Thor, who prays to his father that he will be able to return to his daughter Love, and the X-Men–yes, the ones from the FOX movies. The teasers have yet to show us the villain of the movie, Doctor Doom himself.
