Inspired by a true story, Academy Award winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story) plays one of four friends and octogenarians who are huge fans of the NFL superstar Tom Brady.

Set in 2017, the story follows the women taking a trip to Super Bowl LI to see Brady play in person for the first time. That year, Brady was still the quarterback for the New England Patriots. He is currently playing his third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the first trailer for 80 for Brady, audiences meet Moreno and her three friends played by fellow Academy Award winners Jane Fonda (Coming Home) and Sally Field (Norma Rae), and Academy Award nominee Lily Tomlin (Nashville).

The foursome is spending a Sunday afternoon watching Brady playing in one of the many conference championships of his career. Tomlin’s character asks her friends, “Aren’t you tired of the same old boring lives? Let’s go to the Super Bowl.” Moreno’s character responds: “The Super Bowl is no place for four old women.”

Although they don’t have tickets to the big game, the friends head to Houston, Texas, anyway. There, they meet a scalper who is willing to sell them four tickets for $10,000. Without that kind of money, Field’s character attempts to win the tickets during a pre-game hot wings eating contest. Later, Moreno’s character accidentally gets high and starts hallucinating restaurateur and TV host Guy Fieri everywhere.

We’re assuming the women find a way to see the game since the trailer shows them inside the stadium cheering for Brady, but it’s the journey we’re most interested in. With screen icons like Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, and Lily Tomlin at the helm, there’s a good chance they’ll lead us to victory.

80 for Brady premieres at theaters on February 3, 2023.
