Rosario Dawson is ready to prove that once a rebel, always a rebel in the first official trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka, which dropped on Tuesday (July 11).
Dawson plays the titular character, Ahsoka Tano, the former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker and warrior in her own right. Set after the fall of the Empire, she sets out to investigate a threat to a vulnerable galaxy while wrestling with the guilt of her past.
The character was first introduced during the animated 2008 film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which led into the animated series of the same name. She later appeared in The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett.
At the start of the trailer, former Jedi Knight Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) explains that “war is inevitable” and that “one must destroy in order to create.”
The scene then cuts to Ahsoka saying that she has been hearing whispers that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) is going to return to take his seat as the heir of the Empire. Thrawn is a blue-skinned villain who was first introduced in a few Star Wars novels in the 1990s.
Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) knows the power that Thrawn will bring upon his return and wants leadership in the New Republic to help prevent a war. Hera tells Ahsoka that Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) could help them with their mission. Ahsoka describes her as “stubborn” but knows that Hera is right.
There’s history between Ahsoka and Sabine, so we’re sure Star Wars fans are anticipating some big drama between them with plenty of easter eggs that long-time fans will appreciate; which hopefully include fan favorite Ezra. “Sometimes we have to do what’s right regardless of our personal feelings,” Ahsoka says.
The first two episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka premiere on August 23, 2023, exclusively on Disney+.
