Marvel fans got their first teaser trailer for the superhero film Eternals and Oscar nominated actress Salma Hayek (Frida) was front and center leading a diverse ensemble cast into a new MCU adventure. Eternals is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao (Nomadland).

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an immortal alien race known as the Eternals, who have been secretly living on the Earth for more than 7,000 years, join forces to battle the subspecies known as Deviants. Hayek plays Ajak, the spiritual leader of the Eternals who has the power to heal and the ability to communicate with the Celestials, the ancient race that created them.

The teaser trailer begins with a sweeping view of a huge body of water. The 1963 song “The End of the World” by Skeeter Davis starts to play as inhabitants living on the coast of an island look up to the sky and see an extraterrestrial spaceship flying above them.

Viewers then get a look at a few of the Eternal members, including Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and Hayek’s Ajak, who begins her narration about human race.

“We have watched and guided,” she says. “We have helped them progress and seen them accomplish wonders. Throughout the years, we have never interfered – until now.”

Later, we see the entire team of Eternals stepping on the sands of the island with Ajak standing at the point. Then, while sitting at a table sharing a meal, the youngest Eternal, Sprite (Lia McHugh), ask who will lead The Avengers “now that Captain Rogers and Iron Man are both gone.”
Ikaris answers: “I could lead them,” which spurs laughter from everyone.

Eternals premieres at theaters November 5.
